We caught up with Tim Rattray, one of the Directors at CIB Jersey

What areas of insurance expertise do you specialise in, and how do you use your knowledge to assist clients?

I concentrate on Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers Liability, Cyber Risks, Business insurance and HNW Household/yacht/aircraft insurance. I’m able to help companies and HNW families establish what exposure they face and find the most suitable insurance product at the best price.

What aspect of your job do you find most fulfilling, and how does it impact the clients you serve?

I love being able to find the best product for a client at the right premium. I’ve been in the insurance industry for over 34 years and so the knowledge and experience I’ve picked up during that time allows me to quickly know what type of insurance product would provide the best cover for the client and which Insurers to approach.

What sets Channel Insurance Brokers apart from other insurance providers.

Definitely the service we provide and the level of knowledge and experience our Brokers have. We really like getting to know our clients which means that we build up a very good relationship with them. This allows us to know exactly what exposures they face and for us to protect them as much as possible. The great benefit of being part of a large group is that if we have a risk which we cannot place locally, we can draw on the experience and relationships our colleagues in the UK have.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies and interests that help you unwind and recharge?

I have two daughters aged 17 and 15 and so I play ‘taxi driver’ a lot, especially at weekends. We also have a Cavapoo dog and so I really enjoy walking through the lanes and on the beach with him. I’m a season ticket holder at Jersey Bulls and so I’m excited that the new season is here.

What motivates you to come to work every day and deliver exceptional service to your clients?

The great thing about Insurance is that it’s so varied. You can have your day planned out and then receive a call from a client which then completely takes the day to sort. I love talking to clients and getting to know them so that I can get them the best cover and the more diverse the risk, the better.

Can you share a fun or interesting fact about yourself?

I was 15 and living in the Isle of Man and had just returned from school. Kevin Keegan was looking round our house as he was thinking of re-locating from Germany to the IOM. It was a surreal experience but he was so nice and he even ended having dinner with us.
