Keeping your Heart Healthy this Valentine’s Day

Our healthcare division thought today was the perfect day to focus on matters of the Heart (literally)

Carla, Gena & Olive came up with a few actions to keep your heart healthy:

  1. Preparing a heart healthy meal: Increase your fruits, veggies and whole grains while limiting your intake of saturated fats, sodium, and sugars.
  2. Keep moving: Exercise for 30 minutes at least 5 times a week can help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, not to mention the release of endorphins that trigger positive feelings.
  3. Know your history: The presence of heart disease in a parent or sibling, especially at a young age can increase your risk of developing heart disease. Staying on top of your medical and family history can put you in a better position for preventative action.
  4. The scales matter: Obesity increases one’s risk of heart attacks, diabetes, and heart failure. Consult your doctor to determine a healthy weight range for your body.
