The festive season is here! A time to enjoy with the ones you love, filled with giving, sharing, wrapping, unwrapping and being merry.
With families stocking up and putting presents underneath their Christmas trees, it’s important to consider whether all of these items are included under your insurance policies incase of any unwelcome surprises, especially if you’re hosting and therefore increasing the risk of accidental damage… (we all have that family member)!
Some insurers automatically increase the contents sums insured under their policies during the festive season to protect extra items, but this isn’t applicable to every policy and it very much depends on your insurer. It is also possible that you may have a single article limit, and we’d advise speaking to your broker to get an understanding of what cover you have, especially if any items such as jewellery or technology exceed the limit. You may need to list any items that exceed the limit, and insurers may wish to see a valuation. Whether it’s accidental damage or theft, it’s worth ensuring everything is protected.
Cold, wet and windy winter weather is often an unwelcome guest to the party at this time of year. You could see external pipes freeze up, for example, causing water damage, and so it’s best to do your homework and prepare as best you can so that your Christmas spirit isn’t spoiled.
What about fire? According to Aviva, fire claims soar by 120% more on Christmas Day alone. Again, we highly recommend speaking to your broker to check your policy and follow any safety guidelines so that you can relax and enjoy the occasion.
