We’re marking a special milestone at Channel Insurance Brokers as we celebrate 10 years of dedication and excellence from Denise Prosser, our Personal Insurance Assistant Manager. Denise has been a valued member of the team, known for her deep understanding of our clients’ needs and her commitment to delivering first-class service. We sat down with Denise to reflect on her journey and hear her thoughts on working with CIB and serving the Channel Islands community.
How did you first get started at CIB?
I was wanting to return to work once my children were completing primary school. As I had started in the insurance industry in 1989, it felt natural to return to this line of work. One of my previous colleagues’ part owned CIB at the time, so contact was made, and I started a few weeks later.
What has changed the most in the insurance landscape since you began?
It has changed quite dramatically, but most significantly since I began my career is the rapid pace of digital transformation. Technology has revolutionised how we interact with clients, assess risks, and deliver services.
What’s kept you at CIB for 10 years?
A bit of a cliché, but, working with my colleagues, many of whom have worked for CIB much longer than I have. The experience within CIB is phenomenal! Also having a good relationship with clients and the values CIB hold have also kept me here.
How has CIB grown or evolved during your time here?
It has grown extensively since PIB Group became our parent company in 2016, with both client and staff numbers increasing considerably. We have retained our local reputation whilst benefitting from the opportunities an international group brings.
What’s unique about providing insurance in the Channel Islands?
Being able to give a personal service, which most of our clients appreciate. As Islanders, many of our clients will be known to us personally or through friends, family or neighbours so it is important that we go the extra mile to make sure all of clients have their insurance needs met.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone new to the insurance industry locally?
To take the time to truly understand the local market—its unique regulations, customer needs, and business culture. Building strong relationships and being open to continuous learning will help you thrive. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance from experienced colleagues, and always prioritise excellent customer service and ethical practices.
How do you spend your downtime off the clock?
Spending time with family and friends as well as a bit of gardening.
What’s something people might not know about working in insurance?
Many assume insurance is just about selling policies, but the industry actually offers a wide variety of roles—from underwriting and risk assessment to claims management and data analytics. It’s a field that requires strong problem-solving skills, relationship building, and adaptability to new technologies. The work is often dynamic and rewarding, with plenty of opportunities for career growth and specialisation.
Thank you to Denise for sharing her experiences and for her contribution over the past decade. Her consistency with helping clients and supporting her colleagues truly embodies the values we hold at CIB. Here’s to many more years of success and continued service to our Guernsey and Jersey clients.
