Preparing Your Vessel for the Season Ahead

As spring settles in across the Channel Islands, the return of warmer weather marks the start of the boating season. Whether your vessel has been laid up ashore or in the marina basin for the winter or you’re planning your first trip of the year, it’s time to check if your vessel is ready for the season – from the hull, onboard safety equipment to insurance, is shipshape.

Ready for Launch – Check list

  • Visually check the vessel, especially hull, engine bay, fuel tanks, outboard motors, propeller(s), anodes, rigging, seacocks, bilges pumps, anchor and chain.
  • Check all electrical equipment, inspect all batteries, especially any Lithium batteries onboard
  • Check gas and CO2 for leaks as flexible pipes are porous and should be changed every 5 years
  • Inspect all fuel hoses, tanks, fixture and fittings for wear and tear, corrosion or damage
  • Check your mooring ropes, especially if swing, trot or pile, or if marina berth the pontoon fittings
  • Check and service firefighting equipment, flares and replace if out of date.
  • Service life jackets and life raft annually
  • Check your trailer winch, tyre pressure, brakes, safety chain to ensure it is roadworthy
